Sector Challenges We Solve
What Makes Fuel Retail & EV Charging Projects Different
A Forecourt Is a Hazardous Area
Fuel dispensing areas carry flammable vapour, so electrical work and illuminated signage near them follow stricter rules than a shopfront. IBS plans lit elements, cable routes and junction boxes with the outlet’s safety layout and the oil company’s specification, and never improvises a power tap on the forecourt.
Canopies Live Outdoors, 24 Hours a Day
A canopy fascia faces monsoon rain, coastal salt air and constant heat from above, and it is lit all night. IBS specifies weather-rated ACP, sealed LED modules at IP65 or better, and drivers housed where they can be reached for service without shutting a fuelling lane.
Hundreds of Outlets, One Rebrand Window
When an oil company or private retailer changes its identity, every outlet has to change within a fixed window without stopping sales. IBS surveys outlets in batches, produces canopy, pylon and building kits centrally, and installs lane by lane so the outlet keeps selling fuel while the work happens.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions About Fuel Retail & EV Charging Projects
What must a petrol pump display in India?
Under the public sector oil companies’ Marketing Discipline Guidelines 2024, a retail outlet displays authorised selling prices and opening stock, product density, daily stock and a price board, a zero-before-delivery message on each dispenser, the product name on each nozzle, working hours, complaint book availability, and the dealer’s and oil company officials’ names and phone numbers for complaints. Missing displays are listed irregularities.
What safety signage does a petrol pump need?
The Petroleum Rules, 2002 prohibit smoking and any fire or light that could ignite vapour in a service station except where authorised (Rules 11 and 117). Rule 133 requires the licence number to be prominently marked, and Rule 134 requires an extract of specified rules and the licence conditions to be exhibited in a conspicuous place. The oil company’s own specification adds its standard safety boards.
What signage does a CNG station need?
The CNG dispensing licence conditions under the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016 (Form G) require warning signs reading Stop Vehicle, No Smoking, No Open Flame Permitted and Flammable Gas at the dispensing and compressor areas, a ban on smoking, naked lights and mobile phones inside the premises, and emergency numbers for the fire service, police and the marketing company displayed conspicuously.
What must an EV charging station display?
The Ministry of Power’s EV charging guidelines of 17 September 2024 require public stations to display charging rates per unit and service charges (clause 10(3)) and their location, charger types, number of available chargers and rates (clause 12(2)(ii)). The checklist adds pictorial instructions in English, Hindi and the local language, charger specifications, customer care, 112 and 1091 numbers, and clearly marked charging bays.
How many petrol pumps are there in India?
PPAC’s state-wise data shows 1,03,023 fuel retail outlets across India on 1 April 2026, including private companies, up from 96,724 a year earlier; Maharashtra had 9,354. PNGRB reports 9,053 CNG stations on 31 July 2026, and PIB reported 29,151 public EV charging stations installed in February 2026.
What is a petrol pump canopy fascia made of?
The canopy is the roof over the dispensing area; its fascia is the brand band around the edge. It is usually aluminium composite panel on a steel frame with a lit brand band or lettering. Dimensions and colours come from the oil company’s outlet specification. IBS builds to that specification with weather-rated ACP and sealed LED modules rated IP65 or better.
Does an illuminated petrol pump sign need BMC permission in Mumbai?
Yes. BMC’s Policy Guidelines for Display of Outdoor Advertisements 2025 name petrol pumps among business premises where glow signs, illuminated name boards, backlit and digital displays need written permission (clause 2.1(a)). Boards must not project beyond the building line, and a structure over 300 sq ft needs a structural stability report from a BMC-registered engineer.
How does IBS rebrand an outlet without stopping fuel sales?
Work is phased lane by lane, so at least one side of the forecourt keeps dispensing while the other is fenced off. Canopy fascia panels and pylon faces are pre-assembled at the Mumbai facility to cut time on site, and lit elements are commissioned at night so the outlet trades normally during the day.
How does IBS work safely on a live forecourt?
A forecourt is a flammable vapour area. IBS agrees a work permit and method with the dealer and the oil company before starting, uses no hot work or open flame on the forecourt, keeps electrical work with its own electricians to the oil company’s specification, and barricades the working lane from vehicles and customers.
What goes into a fuel outlet signage kit?
Canopy fascia and cladding, price and brand pylon, entry and exit signs, dispenser graphics where the specification includes them, sales building fascia and room branding, the statutory display boards for prices, stock and complaint contacts, toilet signage with the feedback QR code, and CNG or EV bay signage where the outlet offers them.
Can IBS mark and sign EV charging bays at an existing outlet?
Yes. The 2024 guidelines ask oil companies with charging facilities to advertise them on their signage and recommend directional signs on nearby roads. IBS adds charging bay marking, the tariff and service charge board, charger instruction panels in three languages and pylon or canopy panels announcing the charger.
Has IBS worked with fuel retailers?
IBS’s named client work on this site is in airports, banking, insurance, retail and corporate offices, including branch signage and in-branch branding for IDFC FIRST Bank across India. It does not name a fuel retail client here. What it brings is the same rollout method: survey, approved kit, central production, IBS installation crews and as-installed photographs for every site.
How long does a canopy and pylon rebrand take per outlet?
It depends on the specification, the outlet size and access, so IBS schedules it per outlet after survey rather than quoting a single figure. Pre-assembling canopy panels and pylon faces at the factory is what keeps site time short, and the programme is planned so each outlet keeps selling fuel throughout.
How does IBS work with an oil company or charging operator?
IBS can quote against the company’s outlet specification for a dealer, a private retailer or a charging operator, with line-item BOQs per outlet type and GST-compliant invoicing. For a network programme it supplies the survey, kit, installation schedule and as-installed photographs that a retail network team needs to sign off each outlet.
What warranty does IBS give on forecourt signage?
Signage workmanship is warranted for 12 to 24 months depending on the product, with manufacturer warranty passed through on named LED modules and power supplies. Electrical test records and the warranty certificate are handed over per outlet, and a named IBS contact holds the drawings and spares.
What signage does a fuel retail outlet need?
A canopy fascia, a price and brand pylon, entry and exit signs and a branded sales building, plus the displays the rules require: selling prices, density and stock, complaint contacts and dispenser messages under the oil companies’ 2024 guidelines, the licence number and rules extract under the Petroleum Rules, and CNG or EV boards where offered. IBS builds and installs the full outlet kit.
What is a petrol pump canopy fascia?
The brand band around the edge of the roof over the dispensing area, usually aluminium composite panel on a steel frame with lit lettering or a lit band. It is the element customers see first from the road, and its dimensions and colours are set by the oil company’s outlet specification.
What are the Marketing Discipline Guidelines?
The public sector oil companies’ rulebook for retail outlet dealers. The 2024 edition, effective 24 October 2024, lists what a dealer must display and provide, and treats missing price, density, stock and complaint displays as irregularities.

Rollout
How IBS runs a fuel outlet rebrand
The rule for every outlet: fuel keeps flowing while the identity changes.
How a network rollout runs
- Site survey per outlet: frontage, structure, power, landlord and municipal rules
- Artwork adapted from the brand standard and approved per site type
- Batch production at the Mumbai facility against one physical colour swatch
- Dispatch by route with installation drawings; IBS crews install
- As-installed photographs per site, day and night where the sign is lit
- One BOQ line per site type, so each outlet’s cost is traceable
How outdoor network signage is specified
- Faces and fascias on aluminium composite panel over a powder-coated frame
- Lit elements with LED modules and named SMPS drivers, rated IP65 outdoors
- Lightbox faces on diffuser-grade acrylic or flex face for even light
- Supply through MCB and RCCB protection, earthing to IS 3043, cabling in conduit
- Structural check on pylons and large boards; shop drawings per site type
- A signage schedule per outlet that the installation photographs are checked against
What IBS brings regardless of sector
- Signage fabricated at the IBS Mumbai facility: laser cutting, powder coating, assembly, QC
- Furniture built at the Vasai East factory to as-built dimensions
- In-house civil engineers, MEP coordinators, false ceiling and joinery teams
- Built to NBC 2016, IS 3043 (earthing) and IS 732 (electrical installation)
- Factory QC on every unit before dispatch, so defects surface in Mumbai not on site
- Pan-India delivery plus UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait
What you receive at handover
- Joint snag walk, snags listed, dated, closed and photographically evidenced
- As-built drawings plus commissioning and test records for HVAC, electrical and fire
- Warranty certificates with manufacturer pass-throughs collated in one file
- Signage workmanship warranted 12 to 24 months; fit-outs carry a stated defect liability period
- A named IBS contact for that period, holding the original drawings and spares

Commercials
How the work is priced, specified and verified
The parts of a quotation that decide whether the number you compare is the number you pay, and the named components behind the specification.
How a price is built
- A line-item BOQ against a stated scope, not a rate per square foot
- Component brands named on the BOQ rather than written as a generic line
- Provisional sums identified as provisional, not folded into a rate
- Written assumptions, so you can see which one moved if the number changes
- Variations agreed in writing against the original BOQ before work proceeds
- RA bills raised against measured work completed, not elapsed calendar time
Named components we specify
- LED and drivers: Nichia-class modules with Mean Well or Schneider drivers, IP65 outdoors
- Films and wraps: 3M and Avery Dennison cast media
- Electrical: Havells, Legrand and Schneider switchgear, MCB and RCCB protection
- HVAC: Daikin, Blue Star and Voltas VRF and ducted systems
- Plumbing: Astral and Supreme CPVC and UPVC, Jaquar fixtures
- Boards and laminates: Gyproc and Saint-Gobain partitions, Merino and Greenlam surfaces
What to check in any quotation, ours included
- Is the driver brand named, or does the line just say "LED driver"? That is the component that fails first and the one most often substituted downward.
- Is the defect liability period stated in months, and does it start at handover or at practical completion?
- Does the price assume access you actually have, and what happens to it if the access window changes?
- Who is the named project lead, and how many other jobs are they running at the same time?
- Are spares held against your specification, or bought nearest-match when something fails?
- On a multi-site programme, how will you be shown that site 140 matches site 1 without visiting both?
How quality is verified
- Colour proofed against one approved physical swatch under controlled lighting
- Factory QC on every unit before dispatch from the Mumbai facility
- Hydrotesting on plumbing and pressure tests on sprinkler lines before concealment
- Earthing verified to IS 3043; electrical installation to IS 732
- Snag list walked jointly, closed and re-inspected with photographic evidence
- As-built photographs of every installed location on a multi-site programme
