Sector Challenges We Solve

What Makes Automobile Dealerships Projects Different

The OEM Sets the Standard, the Dealer Pays for It

An OEM’s corporate identity manual fixes facade proportions, pylon height, materials and colours, while each dealer funds and owns its own building. IBS works to the manual, prices each dealer’s scope separately, and gets the OEM’s approval on each site adaptation, so neither party is surprised at inspection.

No Two Dealer Buildings Are the Same

A showroom might be a new build on a highway, a converted ground floor in a market, or a mall unit. IBS surveys each one and adapts the facade and pylon layout to the plot and the building, keeping the elements the manual makes non-negotiable.

The Showroom Keeps Selling During the Change

Dealers cannot close during a festive-season identity change. IBS phases facade and interior work, installs lit signage in night shifts, and keeps customer areas and the service reception usable throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Automobile Dealerships Projects

Is there a legal requirement for what a car showroom must display?

We found no Indian statute prescribing signage inside or outside a vehicle showroom. The trade certificate under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules is carried on the vehicle, not displayed at the premises. What governs a showroom is the OEM’s corporate identity manual, the state’s shop name-board rules and, in cities like Mumbai, municipal permission for illuminated signs.

What is a dealership corporate identity rollout?

It is an OEM’s programme to bring every dealer’s facade, pylon, signage and interior into line with a new or updated brand standard, usually within a set window. Each dealer’s building is surveyed, the standard is adapted to it, and fabrication and installation follow once the OEM approves the adaptation.

What signage does a car or two-wheeler showroom need?

A pylon or totem at the road, the facade fascia and brand mark, entrance and drive-in signage, interior brand walls and display zones, delivery bay branding, service reception and workshop signage with bay numbering, customer lounge graphics and wayfinding. The OEM manual sets the specification for each element.

How many vehicles were sold in India in FY2025-26?

FADA’s retail data, drawn from Vahan registrations, shows 2,96,71,064 vehicles in FY2025-26, up 13.3%: 2,14,20,386 two-wheelers, 47,05,056 passenger vehicles and 10,60,906 commercial vehicles. SIAM’s wholesale figures show record dispatches in every category, including 46.43 lakh passenger vehicles and 2.17 crore two-wheelers. Every one of those vehicles was sold through a branded showroom.

How many vehicle dealerships are there in India?

No official census exists. FADA, the dealers’ federation, says it represents more than 15,000 automobile dealerships with more than 30,000 dealership outlets. Every one of those outlets carries the OEM’s identity, which is why a single OEM identity change becomes a large, multi-city signage programme.

How fast are EV dealerships growing?

FADA reports 24.52 lakh electric vehicles retailed in FY2025-26, up 24.6%. EVs were 6.54% of two-wheeler retail, 4.25% of passenger vehicles and 60.95% of three-wheelers. New EV brands and EV sub-brands of existing OEMs each bring their own showroom identity, and many open in converted retail units rather than purpose-built buildings.

Does IBS work to the OEM’s corporate identity manual?

Yes. Facade proportions, pylon height, materials, colours and lighting follow the manual. Where a dealer’s building cannot take an element as drawn, IBS prepares the adaptation and gets the OEM’s approval before fabrication, so the dealer passes the OEM’s inspection.

Can IBS fit an OEM identity to a converted building or mall unit?

Yes. Many showrooms, especially two-wheeler and EV, open in ground-floor retail units or malls where the facade is limited or controlled by the landlord. IBS surveys the unit, keeps the manual’s fixed elements, adapts the rest to the frontage and prepares any drawings the landlord or mall needs.

Who pays for a dealership identity upgrade?

Usually the dealer funds its own building work to the OEM’s standard, sometimes with OEM support. IBS quotes each dealer separately against the approved scope, with a line-item BOQ, so the dealer knows its cost and the OEM knows the work matches the standard.

What goes into service workshop signage?

Service reception branding, bay numbering and bay-type signs, safety and PPE signage, customer lounge graphics, parts counter and wash bay signs, and directional signs from the showroom to the workshop. Workshop signage takes heat, oil and pressure washing, so IBS specifies washable and corrosion-resistant materials.

Can the showroom stay open during an identity change?

Yes. IBS phases facade work behind barricading, installs lit signage in night shifts and keeps the sales floor and service reception usable. Interior brand walls are prepared off-site and installed in short windows so customer areas are out of use for as little time as possible.

Does a showroom pylon need BMC permission in Mumbai?

An illuminated pylon, fascia or glow sign does. BMC’s 2025 outdoor advertisement guidelines name showrooms among business premises where illuminated boards need written permission (clause 2.1(a)). Boards must not project beyond the building line, and structures over 300 sq ft need a structural stability report.

How is a two-wheeler rollout different from a car rollout?

Two-wheeler networks have far more outlets, smaller frontages and a faster opening pace, so the kit is simpler and production runs in larger batches. Car showrooms have fewer, larger sites with more facade and interior scope per dealer. IBS plans both from the same survey-kit-install method.

Has IBS worked with automobile dealers?

IBS’s named client work on this site is in airports, banking, insurance, retail and corporate offices, including branch signage and in-branch branding for IDFC FIRST Bank across India. It does not name a automobile dealership client here. What it brings is the same rollout method: survey, approved kit, central production, IBS installation crews and as-installed photographs for every site.

What warranty does IBS give on showroom signage?

Signage workmanship is warranted for 12 to 24 months depending on the product, with manufacturer warranty passed through on named LED modules and power supplies. Electrical test records and the warranty certificate are handed over per dealer, and a named IBS contact holds the drawings and spares for each one.

What does a dealership identity rollout involve?

Building the OEM’s corporate identity into every dealer’s showroom: pylon, facade and fascia, entrance, interior brand walls, delivery bay and service workshop signage. No Indian statute prescribes showroom signage, so the OEM manual is the specification, with state name-board rules and municipal permission for lit signs on top. IBS surveys, adapts, builds and installs dealer by dealer.

What is a corporate identity (CI) manual?

The OEM’s rulebook for how every dealership looks: facade proportions, pylon height, materials, colours, lighting and interior zones. Dealers build to it and are inspected against it, usually at their own cost, which is why site adaptations need the OEM’s approval before fabrication.

What is a showroom pylon?

A freestanding branded tower at the road edge, usually lit, carrying the OEM mark and sometimes the dealer’s name. It is often the tallest element on the plot, so it needs a structural check and, in cities like Mumbai, municipal permission when illuminated.

Scope

What goes into a dealership signage package

Grouped the way an OEM identity manual usually divides the site.

Road and facade

  • Pylon or totem at the road edge, structurally checked
  • Facade ACP cladding and brand fascia to the manual’s proportions
  • Entrance portal and drive-in signage
  • Night lighting set to the manual, not to local preference

Showroom interior

  • Brand walls and display zone graphics
  • Delivery bay backdrop for handover photographs
  • Sales desk and lounge branding
  • Accessories and merchandise display graphics

Service workshop

  • Service reception branding and bay numbering
  • Safety, PPE and bay-type signage
  • Parts counter, wash bay and customer lounge signs
  • Directional signs from showroom to workshop

Local rules

  • State name-board rules, for example Marathi first in Maharashtra
  • BMC permission for illuminated signs at showrooms in Mumbai (clause 2.1(a))
  • Structural stability report for boards over 300 sq ft in Mumbai
  • Landlord or mall approval for units in shared buildings

Rollout

How IBS runs an OEM dealer rollout

The OEM sets the standard. Each dealer has a different building and a different budget. The rollout has to satisfy both.

How a network rollout runs

  • Site survey per outlet: frontage, structure, power, landlord and municipal rules
  • Artwork adapted from the brand standard and approved per site type
  • Batch production at the Mumbai facility against one physical colour swatch
  • Dispatch by route with installation drawings; IBS crews install
  • As-installed photographs per site, day and night where the sign is lit
  • One BOQ line per site type, so each outlet’s cost is traceable

How outdoor network signage is specified

  • Faces and fascias on aluminium composite panel over a powder-coated frame
  • Lit elements with LED modules and named SMPS drivers, rated IP65 outdoors
  • Lightbox faces on diffuser-grade acrylic or flex face for even light
  • Supply through MCB and RCCB protection, earthing to IS 3043, cabling in conduit
  • Structural check on pylons and large boards; shop drawings per site type
  • A signage schedule per outlet that the installation photographs are checked against

What IBS brings regardless of sector

  • Signage fabricated at the IBS Mumbai facility: laser cutting, powder coating, assembly, QC
  • Furniture built at the Vasai East factory to as-built dimensions
  • In-house civil engineers, MEP coordinators, false ceiling and joinery teams
  • Built to NBC 2016, IS 3043 (earthing) and IS 732 (electrical installation)
  • Factory QC on every unit before dispatch, so defects surface in Mumbai not on site
  • Pan-India delivery plus UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait

What you receive at handover

  • Joint snag walk, snags listed, dated, closed and photographically evidenced
  • As-built drawings plus commissioning and test records for HVAC, electrical and fire
  • Warranty certificates with manufacturer pass-throughs collated in one file
  • Signage workmanship warranted 12 to 24 months; fit-outs carry a stated defect liability period
  • A named IBS contact for that period, holding the original drawings and spares

Commercials

How the work is priced, specified and verified

The parts of a quotation that decide whether the number you compare is the number you pay, and the named components behind the specification.

How a price is built

  • A line-item BOQ against a stated scope, not a rate per square foot
  • Component brands named on the BOQ rather than written as a generic line
  • Provisional sums identified as provisional, not folded into a rate
  • Written assumptions, so you can see which one moved if the number changes
  • Variations agreed in writing against the original BOQ before work proceeds
  • RA bills raised against measured work completed, not elapsed calendar time

Named components we specify

  • LED and drivers: Nichia-class modules with Mean Well or Schneider drivers, IP65 outdoors
  • Films and wraps: 3M and Avery Dennison cast media
  • Electrical: Havells, Legrand and Schneider switchgear, MCB and RCCB protection
  • HVAC: Daikin, Blue Star and Voltas VRF and ducted systems
  • Plumbing: Astral and Supreme CPVC and UPVC, Jaquar fixtures
  • Boards and laminates: Gyproc and Saint-Gobain partitions, Merino and Greenlam surfaces

What to check in any quotation, ours included

  • Is the driver brand named, or does the line just say "LED driver"? That is the component that fails first and the one most often substituted downward.
  • Is the defect liability period stated in months, and does it start at handover or at practical completion?
  • Does the price assume access you actually have, and what happens to it if the access window changes?
  • Who is the named project lead, and how many other jobs are they running at the same time?
  • Are spares held against your specification, or bought nearest-match when something fails?
  • On a multi-site programme, how will you be shown that site 140 matches site 1 without visiting both?

How quality is verified

  • Colour proofed against one approved physical swatch under controlled lighting
  • Factory QC on every unit before dispatch from the Mumbai facility
  • Hydrotesting on plumbing and pressure tests on sprinkler lines before concealment
  • Earthing verified to IS 3043; electrical installation to IS 732
  • Snag list walked jointly, closed and re-inspected with photographic evidence
  • As-built photographs of every installed location on a multi-site programme
