What does vinyl printing in Mumbai involve?
Where the vinyl goes decides the rule. Window graphics about your own business need no BMC permission if they keep light and ventilation clear. Graphics on a building’s glass facade are capped at 50% of each panel, with a Chief Fire Officer NOC. Advertising stickers on vehicles need a traffic police NOC. What is the difference between cast and calendered vinyl?
Cast vinyl is made as a thin liquid-cast film, so it stays stable, conforms to curves and rivets, and removes cleanly. Calendered vinyl is rolled from a thicker mass; it is cheaper and suits flat surfaces and shorter use, but can shrink and lift on curves. IBS uses 3M and Avery Dennison cast vinyl where that matters.
What is one-way vision film?
A perforated vinyl printed on one side. From outside it shows the graphic; from inside, the eye sees through the holes, so the window still gives a view out. It is used on shop windows and office glazing.
What is a glass facade advertisement?
In BMC’s 2025 guidelines, any advertisement affixed or pasted to the glass facade of a building. It is allowed only on business premises with a glass facade approved in the building plan, on up to 50% of each panel, with a Chief Fire Officer NOC.

Where vinyl goes in Mumbai, and what BMC requires
BMC’s 2025 advertisement guidelines treat a sticker differently depending on where it is stuck. Read on the policy published 27 November 2025.
Shop windows
- Graphics for the trade on the premises need no permission if they do not obstruct light and ventilation (clause 1.9)
- The exemption excludes illuminated advertisements and sky signs
- The Defacement of Property Act also exempts window advertisements for the business in that building

Digital printing on vinyl and similar media came out at a similar median. Listings rarely say whether lamination, cutting or application is included.
How much does sticker printing cost in Mumbai?
It depends almost entirely on size, quantity and shape, which is why per-piece sticker listings in Mumbai are hard to compare: most do not state the sticker size. Per square foot, printed vinyl listings put the median at ₹35. IBS quotes stickers from the size, quantity, finish and whether they are contour-cut.
Do I need BMC permission for stickers on my shop window?
Not for graphics about your own trade. Clause 1.9 of BMC’s 2025 guidelines allows advertisements for the trade on the premises within its window without permission, provided they do not obstruct light and ventilation. The exemption does not cover illuminated advertisements. The Defacement of Property Act exempts own-trade window advertisements too.

Can I put advertising stickers on my company vehicles in Mumbai?
BMC’s 2025 guidelines allow sticker advertisements on registered vehicles as specified in a No Objection Certificate from the traffic branch of Mumbai Police. Is vinyl counted as plastic under Maharashtra’s plastic ban?
Yes, in the definition. Maharashtra’s 2018 plastic notification defines plastic to include vinyl, and bans plastic and thermocol for decoration across the state. It does not name banners or flex. The national 100 micron rule is written for plastic or PVC banners, not for stickers.
Can I use vinyl graphics for festival décor in Mumbai?
With care. Maharashtra’s 2018 notification bans plastic for decoration and counts vinyl as plastic, but does not define decoration, so there is no clear line for printed décor. For festival and event décor, IBS recommends fabric, and uses vinyl for signage and branding that stays in place.
Can I put stickers on a construction site hoarding in Mumbai?
Yes, after permission. Clause 3.4 of BMC’s 2025 guidelines allows advertising of any size on construction fences, walls and scaffolding once permission is taken, valid up to the Commencement Certificate or RERA registration. It must come down on completion, or BMC can ask for the Occupation Certificate to be refused.
What vinyl should I use for a vehicle in Mumbai?
Cast vinyl. It conforms to curves, rivets and recesses without shrinking back, and removes cleanly at the end of its life, which calendered film often does not. IBS uses 3M and Avery Dennison cast vinyl with a UV-stable laminate for vehicles, because Mumbai traffic and sun wear graphics quickly.
Why do some vinyl stickers peel or shrink?
Usually because calendered film was used on a curve, the surface was not cleaned before application, or the print was not laminated. Calendered vinyl pulls back towards its rolled shape over time. IBS names cast or calendered on the quotation and laminates outdoor and floor graphics.
Can floor graphics be used in Mumbai malls and offices?
Yes. IBS prints floor graphics on anti-skid floor vinyl with a scuff-resistant laminate, so they stay readable under foot traffic. Inside a mall, the mall’s own fit-out rules decide where and for how long they can go down, so the landlord’s approval comes first.
Does a shop window sticker need Marathi in Mumbai?
